Voice-first social platform for making new friends across India
The Problem
Social apps in India had drifted into feeds and endless scrolling — text-first, passive, and bad at actually turning strangers into friends. Building a voice-first alternative meant solving three hard problems at once: real-time audio and video quality on low-end Android devices over patchy networks, language fragmentation across a country that does not share one language, and a safety bar high enough that people feel comfortable speaking to a stranger live.
The Solution
Built a voice-first social product where the primary action is a live call rather than a post. Real-time audio and video runs on Agora's WebRTC infrastructure, with in-call games and virtual gifting layered on top to give conversations something to do beyond small talk. An Express.js and MongoDB backend handles matching, wallets, and the gifting economy, with media assets on S3. Language-aware discovery pairs users across Hindi, English, Punjabi, Tamil, and Marathi, and a verification plus real-time AI moderation pipeline screens behaviour as calls happen.
